What a tough race!
I had a good swim, came out near the front, then out of transition I got stuck behind some girls and a split happened.
So I put my head down and tried to bridge the gap. Looking back now I think I worked way to hard in those first few laps and I am not yet strong enough to do that.
Anyway, so I was not feeling great on the bike, which is weird as I usally feel quite strong and can sit in the bunch. But my back and quads were seizing and I couldnt push the pedals. So when one of the girls dropped off the bunch and I got stuck behind her I couldnt get round fast enough to bridge the gap and I was gone :( It was sad and frustrating to get dropped, but I said to myself, Hey these are the best girls in the world! If it wasnt hard anyone could do it.
So I just decided to stick it out and concentrate on having a good run.
Coming off the bike I had no idea how I would feel after having an average bike. The first lap of the run hurt alot, stomach cramps and a sore back. I pushed through it and just kept my eyes glued to the girls infront. In the end I had a great run. Another best ever time! 37min 27sec. So very happy with that.
I learnt alot from the race and came away with alot of positives.
Aside from the race I found Hamburg to be a big and loud city. It was nice but not really for me. The course was ok, fast times. Im not sure if it was short or just a fast course?
The swim was pretty yuck, the water was dirty.
The bike course had lots of corners, a very bumpy road with lots of pot holes and man holes to avoid and was quite narrow in places.
The run course was really good, the crowd was amazing, people cheering the whole way so it made you run hard the whole time.
Really enjoyed the experience! Now Im back in the Tri NZ base in Sigi. Going to have a few easy days to fully recover then get back into training!
I love that my running is improving faster then I thought it would! Yay thanks to Pete Bennetts!
