So, I have been in Germany for a few weeks now. At first there was just a small group of us here at the base. The squad has been split up all over the World doing different races. But now a few more athletes and coaches have arrived so we have a bit more of a routine and schedule. Oh and yummy team dinners!
Training has been going well. The cycling here is great as there are lots of quiet country roads to ride on and lots of different places to go. The running is pretty cool as well especially if you are doing a long run, lots of trails through the seemingly endless forest, you just have to be careful as it is pretty easy to get lost! Well I think so anyway.
We have been swimming in an outdoor 50m pool, which is great except for the fact that ever since we got back from Hamburg the weather has been average. The pool is not really heated so the only heat it gets is from the sun.... so when the sun has not been shining it gets pretty cold. We have been wearing our wetsuits this whole week! Which was cool and different at first but since every race so far this year has been non wetsuit swim and it looks like the rest of my races will be as well, its not really best to be swimming in a wetty all the time! Fingers crossed the sun comes back!
Germany is very different to home. All the houses are quite old, it makes me apprecite how lucky I am to live in New Zealand in a nice modern home.
They eat funny foods aswell, lots of fatty yuck looking meats. Lots of gerkins and strange veges - often in jars swimming in weird, funky smelling marinade. Also they do love their chocolate! So much chocolate everywhere - kinda like Americans and their peanut butter!
Next Thursday I travel to Hungary! to a little town called Tiszaujvaros (try and pronounce that!) for a World Cup race on Sunday. I am really looking forward to it and want to have a great race!
As they say in Germany - Choos! (chow)
