This
is what I saw on a sign out riding yesterday. I am not quite sure where
they got that motto from... but on the other hand our accommodation is
certainly an oasis!
Flying
in on Sunday and what I have seen so far from being out training,
Cairns is not what I thought it would be like. Quite hilly and a lot of
bush. But to be honest the only thing I knew to expect was the heat and I
am not disappointed.Camp
so far has been great. I cant wait to get a few more days into it and
used to the heat, as at the moment I feel like I have never run before
in my life! Apart from the rather hostile locals, the riding so far has been awesome! We are yet to swim as yesterday was a public holiday, Labour Day? Which meant the pools were closed. Sadly
the open water swimming options are rather sketchy due to natural
hazards. There are lakes up in the mountains which we thought might be
good for swimming, but we have been advised against it. Unless of course
you are Steve Irwin. Sea
swimming has also been scrapped because of ‘stingers’ which are
apparently 10 times worse than jelly fish and you only have about an
hour to get to hospital after being stung...So basically I have decided not to touch anything that moves or breathes.
Heres a picture of the pool we are swimming at, believe it or not thats a school pool! Pretty spiffy :P
